Zolpidem is a more hazardous drug than you may realize, and should never be taken in doses which exceed 10mg per day. Allergic reaction is common to users of Zolpidem, showing itself as rash, hives and sore throat. What's more frightening are reports of hallucinations, memory loss, mood swings, personality changes and general confusion among users of Zolpidem. Generally marketed under the name Ambien, Zolpidem is becoming more and more commonly used in the treatment of insomnia. Though it is quite similar to benzodiazepines like Valium and Xanax it actually does not belong to this family of drugs. Zolpidem can be quite damaging to the liver and kidneys, and is also not recommended for any person with a lung disease. All of this should be discussed with your doctor before taking Zolpidem, but alternatives to Zolpidem for sleep disorders should be considered first.
Herbal sleep aids have been available for a long time, but it is only recently that they have become a popular alternative to prescription drugs. It is a shame that many people who do not need pharmaceuticals are still using them when herbal sleep aids are effective, and much safer. Taking prescription sleep aids over a long period of time will inevitably lead to dependency, and when you stop taking them the rebound insomnia can be far worse than it was to begin with. The withdrawal symptoms can be far worse than that, shakes, sweats and other things accompany them; herbal sleep aids of course have none of these withdrawal symptoms, because they do not have addiction and dependency issues to begin with. It is also important to note that herbal sleep aids do not have side effects like daytime drowsiness either, and do not lead to coordination problems or impairment, just good natural sleep.
There are a lot of different types of natural sleep aids, and once you've decided to say goodbye to your prescription sleep medication it is hard to determine which the correct one for you is. If you have the time and the patients, you can research the ingredients that commonly go into natural sleep aids and find the one with the most powerful formula. Aside from that, there are many blogs, forums and review sites dedicated to the discussion of natural sleep aids and natural remedies in general. It would be wise to draw on the experiences of others to help make your decision. The advantage of natural sleep aids is, of course, that they provide natural sleep rather than "knocking you out" and having you wake up feeling hung-over the next day. The other side effects present in prescription and pharmaceutical sleeping pills are not an issue with natural sleep aids, so there is no need to worry about things like memory loss, blurred vision or liver damage. It is possible to get to sleep without Valium or Ambien, trust in the power of nature and natural sleep aids.
